Welcome to the Family Therapy section.

Family Therapy is different from any other form of individual therapy as it considers that the family is the unit of treatment or intervention.

During the course of therapy, many or all members may be seen. Sessions may involve one or two members or the whole family. Sessions may focus on individual members or relationship pairs within the family; however, the focus is a change in interaction patterns at the family level.  Neither guilt nor blame is seen as one members responsibility, although certain behaviours and differences may have been introduced in to the family in order to cope with what is known as ‘transition points’.  Transition points are key times and events that happen in any family, i.e. adolescence, divorce, birth, bereavement and step families.  Our skilled therapists will help unpick what has happened and support the family as a unit to use these new strategies to help in understanding each other and to respect the strength we all enjoy within a healthy functioning family unit.

Different techniques may be used dependent upon what the family asks for, all of our therapist use a holistic and integrated approach.  We aim to provide a safe and confidential environment for all family issues to be worked through. An initial consultation of 1 hour will be entered in to with as many members of the family as possible in attendance.

For some people their family unit is made up of either a partner, carer, foster parent, family friend or a mentor.  We respect these wishes and work in accordance: likewise we have experience in working with same sex partnerships, cultural differences and spiritual diversity.
